Year 1
Wishing all the new Year 1 pupils and a very warm welcome back after the school Summer holidays.
We have some exciting things planned for the children this year including trips out in our local environment to the beach, Nutcombe Bottom, Dunster castle, visitors to the school, taste testing, celebrations of diversity and faith and many more opportunities to make the Year 1 curriculum exciting.
Outdoor learning is on Monday mornings (please provide a pair of named wellies for your child to keep in school).
PE is on Wednesday afternoons (please ensure all kit is labelled with your child's name).
For the first half term, Mrs Newell will teach on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and Mrs Payne will teach every Thursday.
We begin this half term with the cross-curricular theme of The Local Environment, Identity and Belonging.
Our topics for this half term include:
SEAL- New beginnings
History/ geography- Homes Now and In the Past, mapping
Science- Animals, including humans
Literacy- Labels, lists and captions, Autumn words, stories and poems
Maths- Place value, number bonds to 10, addition and subtraction and shape
Art- Sculpture
ICT- Technology and my toys
Music- 'Feel the Pulse'- pulse and rhythm using instruments and our bodies
RE- Special places/ Harvest
PE- Gymnastics/ Write Dance
Handwriting- Pencil grip, posture and patterns
Outdoor learning- Treasure hunts (science and senses), Harvest, sound trails, vegetable patch, Conygar tower etc.
